Original Creation

Enter the light

Voy Kay 17 Oct 2020

In my adult life, I have encountered and survived two virusses and two conditions, all of them lethal. None of them was a happy experience yet only once did I think about being close to death itself. Although I had some sort of a vision of a bright light, I never thought of it as a lure with a pathway or a tunnel leading to it and needed to be walked.
Other people will have that vision and that's okay. I believe we all have our own idea, forced upon on us or not, about nearing death.

Canvas used was a budget 12"x12", prepared with liquid white. Three colours only, namely Ivory black, Prussian blue and Twhite. Hardest part was the figure where it's tough to get black paint over white paint without ending up with too much grey. In all, this took 40 minutes.

Please feel free to comment! Keep in mind this is just a simple painting, the intention/meaning behind it is SO much more important!

This is brilliant Voy. It's simplicity is most endearing. It's one of those subjects that is instantly recognisable without any explanation but you just know you should be exploring the message. The first thing that really pleased my eye is the shadow of the figure. My favourite part is the very subtle brush strokes you used to create the curvature of the tunnel, there are some lovely tones in there. Your story really enhanced the painting for me, and I can really relate to that. I can match your count of 4 and raise you 1. But that's probably because I'm an old biddy and lucky to still be alive and enjoying the beauty of nature that is offered up to us every day. On one of those occasions I mentioned I thought I was having a vision, turned out I was confused due to being half sedated and the light was from the ambulance man's torch.

Thank you my friend, a heartwarming and inspiring comment.
I heard from your summer troubles and hope your health is 'pico bello' now. Myself, I recovered from two (severe) surgery sessions mid summer and those are not even in my count of 4!
So quite a comeback for both of us!

Yes, the painting was kept simple to stress on the story, the meaning behind this. My vision (Fall 1999) is still brightly clear in my head but I never ever dared to draw it. Maybe now, with Bob's techniques, I might be able to paint it since it is something that is better to be shown iso being told.

Till next one Landscapepainter!

Great blending of colors at the end of the tunnel. I think u capture great depth and light effect. I wish I could do some people and animals but I suck at it. Stuck with happy little trees. Lol. Great job!!! Love even the shadows on it.

It is true Wybnormal, one can see different things in this. It's what I intended, to let people think about it with their own mind and vison.
Thanks for your cheers!!

Voy, this is thoughts provoking. Is it a lure that white light? Where? Shall one follow it or run away. Uncertainty is in the painting.
Thanks for bringing it up.

Dear Sunnylady, it was intended as the vision towards death. Many see it like this (tunnel, lure ...), others don't.
That's why I need people to think about this and inside, they might always fine THEIR right answer.

I really like this. I’ve contemplated such a painting in the past and you have nailed it. The tunnel glow is fantastic.
After much study on this topic and interesting dreams/experiences of my own, I concur with your assessment that this ultimate experience is as unique as we are. Bravo!
